I wasn’t going to have a Launch Party. But some friends insisted, “You’ve got to have a party and celebrate.” So, I spent two weeks preparing for the event. I created a couple of posters, and especially liked the one that summarized the evolution of the Atomic Peril cover. |
I was very encouraged by the strong response to the invitation–about 120 people attended. I signed books the entire time, except for a half-hour when I was interviewed by Rick Acker, a best-selling suspense author. I estimate I signed about seventy books, which I enjoyed (and surprisingly, my right hand didn’t get tired), but I wished I’d had more than a minute or so with each person.
Many people said the half-hour interview made them even more excited about reading the book. Here’s some of the questions Rick asked me:
- What caused you to start writing a novel?
- What did you hope to accomplish by writing it?
- How realistic is the story?
- Did you have an outline of the entire book before you started writing, or did you let the plot develop as you wrote (writing by the seat-of-your pants)
- Did you ever catch any terrorists when you worked on nuclear forensics?
Rick was a great interviewer, and I enjoyed telling my friends some aspects of my writing journey.
