Earlier this month, I finished addressing the feedback from my proof editor. He made a lot of minor punctuation changes, but more importantly, he also caught several significant errors. Since this is my final version, I fervently hope he spotted everything.

Then I contracted with a professional who leads a team of designers and typesetters to do both the interior design and cover design. To get started, I completed a “design brief” that will help him grasp the nature of the book. He asked a lot of questions that took some thought on my part, e.g. list the major themes, describe the target reader, synopsis, tone of voice, describe the key characters, etc., etc. But I’m glad he’s thorough, as book-marketing experts emphasize the importance of the cover design. It needs to prompt curiosity in my target readers, as well as convey the nature of the story.

I intend to publish on Amazon, and offer the options of paperback, e-book, and audio book. I’m still undecided on whether to offer a hardback version, because I imagine very few people would choose this more expensive option.

Regarding the audio book, I reached out to an author/narrator who taught a fiction track I attended at a writers’ conference. In addition to writing many novels, he’s narrated 26 books for other authors. After I received his sample reading from my manuscript, I was sold. If you like audio books, I believe you’ll enjoy his rendition.

With these contracts in place, I’ve set a target for publishing the book: October 3, 2023.
